If you search Google for “business opportunity”, you get something like 70 million results. So it seems there is a lot to choose from. A casual examination of a few search results reveals a confusing mixture of offers.
There is a commonly found business opportunity which offers commissions for promoting some physical product in the offline world. In other words, the “home party” concept.
We also have a more questionable type of business opportunity: the MLM scheme. In this case the focus isn’t on any real product but rather on how to recruit new victims into the system.
There may be some actual product involved, but that is more to make it all appear more legitimate. Needless to say, avoid anything that smells like an MLM scheme like the plague.
Back to the “home party” type of business opportunity. Sure, it is a legit business but how much money are you likely to make. Why? Well, you can only reach so many prospects using this small-scale approach.
But move this basic concept to the online world, and things look much better. Instead of throwing home parties, you simply set up a web page. Now you have tremendous opportunities to reach a large audience.
In the online world, someone promoting products or services like that is called an “affiliate”. Some very smart affiliates manage to make millions by simply promoting stuff online. This is because of the tremendous leverage you can get using the Web. Establish a strong presence on the Internet — and you have the potential of reaching out to astronomical numbers of people.
You can get going at practically no cost. How about a free web page at Squidoo for example — no HTML knowledge required. You must have a basic grasp of how to make your web pages visible to potential customers. Naturally, the looks of your web page is important as well. You must come across as a credible source of information to get taken seriously by your visitors.
